The Smart Pill

The SmartPill capsule is an ingestible medical device that your doctor can use to evaluate the motility of your gastrointestinal tract.

When ingested, the capsule transits the intestines by peristalsis or the normal rhythmic contraction of the intestinal muscles. As the capsule travels through your system, it collects data and then wirelessly sends that information to a data receiver that you can wear on a lanyard around your neck or on a belt clip. The SmartPill test is started at the doctor's office, but after capsule ingestion, you are free to return to your regular daily activities.

The test ends when the single-use capsule is excreted naturally from the body, usually within a couple days. You simply return the data receiver to your doctor and schedule a consultation appointment to review the results!

SmartPill's MotiliGI TM software is used to analyze the data, indicating results such as:
• Gastric emptying time
• Small bowel transit time
• Colonic transit time
• Whole gut transit time
• Antral and duodenal pressures
• Motility indices
Results are used for the evaluation of gastroparesis and chronic constipation.
